Rigards x The Viridi-Anne, a design exploration of organic forms through stereometric construction, drawing influence from Naum Cabo's Constructivist sculptures over a century ago.
Crafted of ultralight titanium, every pair comes with a glasses case made from vegetable-tanned Santa Croce leather. The attention received by the ongoing collaboration between RIGARDS and The Viridi-anne, the seminal label by Tomoaki Okaniwa, paved the way for a fifth team-up with the presentation of an all-new silhouette made from ultralight titanium and aluminum-magnesium.
A gently rectangular shape conjured as if through hand gestural control and virtual reshaping - pinching, moulding and sculpting, Minority Report-style - from the series’ precursor models, RG2004TVA generates recognition through a beautifully cohesive design language.
All the hallmark elements are here, just in an evolved form: the top and bottom bars, crescent side pieces, and negative spaces harnessed as deltoid shape cut-outs. The design skillfully advances a longstanding exploration of organic forms, its concave planes and bevelled edges drawing influence from Naum Cabo's Constructivist sculpture.
Another binding factor to the series is the sunglass clip-on, this time adorned with a subtle coiled motif - a small ode to the Asian folk art of coiled-grass basket weaving from Tenki (once practised by the Ainu people but now lost) to Anyaman Ribu-ribu (a traditional craft that lives on still in the Malay world).
Crucially, the clip-on seamlessly blends in with the frame while also profoundly altering its frontal lines, effectively creating two frames in one.
