The newest Uma Wang x RIGARDS collaboration serves up a glorious salute to the central theme of primordial nature and indigenous aesthetics.
A bold round silhouette, UW12 was designed as the meeting point of heterogeneous worlds, where elements of geometric abstraction and tribal jewellery comingle with natural materiality.
Crafted of titanium, the frame’s rims are incised with a concentric ring motif (of 568 fine ridges encircling each rim), creating a pattern subtly reminiscent of coil-shelled ammonites that once ruled the Jurassic seas, as well as of enigmatic manmade whorls like the aperture of a camera lens and the double spiral staircases at the Vatican Museums.
The radial composition equally pays homage to the last of the ring-bearers - members of native tribes in Asia and Africa whose astonishing ornamental rings form part of their traditional attire and legacy.
Enhanced with a clever hollowed-out construction minimizing weight, the frame functions splendidly both with sun and ophthalmic lenses.
Each pair of frames is handcrafted, making every pair as unique as your fingerprint.
