The Surface collection takes inspiration from Sergio Herman’s homeland of Zeeland, in The Netherlands – a series of small islands in a constant contest with the ocean, with a landscape etched by tides and flood surges.
The materials, colours and glazing techniques interpret the region’s raw nature and unique topography, from its jagged coastlines to its pale sandy dunes, rich green pastures and dark tranquil lakes.
“The landscape’s rough textures and beautiful imperfections expose what is real and true. From the deep grey of the mystic North Sea to a scarred and ageing skin, every surface is a symbol of depth. Every surface tells a story”, he explains.
