The first chapter of Horisaki begun with the tradition and development of hat craftsmanship. Our very starting point is every milliner and hatters combined history of trial and error, insights and learnings, failure and success. Our pieces are our summary and interpretation of that heritage; they express our journey.
We work at our own pace. Affected by the ever-changing environment, influenced by the silent scenery surrounding us and inspired by the no-nonsense legacy of the Swedish countryside. Our craft takes time. Our pieces are made to be worn and they will last for a lifetime. Sprung from our heritage, shaped by our hands, defined by our journey. Meant to continue develop at their own pace.
Makoto and Karin look for the finest primal materials, such as forfeits and raw leathers, to which they give a beautifully aged look. The shapes of the pieces are different from each other and recall antique workers' headwear. By covering the hats with a unique patina and then burning them with fire, Horisaki gets its signature effect. The frames devour small parts of the pieces, fully protected by the patina, creating holes and frayed hems, making each hat unique.
Horisaki hats are made to be worn and will last over time, both in design and craftsmanship. If you take good care of it while embracing its ageing, the natural change of texture and colour will contribute to its strength of character. How nature, usage and the passage of time imprint its appearance with patina is what makes it vibrant. Creating a more captivating story.
